Welcome to 2019!
We are putting together our program for the year.
Our first event was with Anne Summers and Melissa Fagan, our second was with Anna Funder and Mary Garden. The podcast of the first event is now available for download, or to listen online.
We have a couple more events in the pipeline.
Our program for 2018 included events with Alexander McCall Smith, Kristina Olsson & Josepha Dietrich, Gillian Triggs & Patrick Nunn and Kerry O’Brien & Shelley Davidow.
We've recently moved to an on-line booking platform. It makes it easier for you to purchase tickets, you can buy them at any time of day or night. There are no extra fees applicable. If for some reason you have difficulties purchasing tickets over the internet a limited number of tickets are available for cash (only) at Maleny Bookshop (only). Please note: cash only.
Outspoken is directed by Steven and Tyyni Lang. We are based in Maleny in south-east Queensland. This is our ninth year of operation. During that time we've held conversations with some fifty-six authors, including Kerry O’Brien, Gillian Triggs, Kristina Olsson, Richard Flanagan, A C Grayling, Malachy Tallack, Richard Fidler, Tim Winton, Alexander McCall-Smith, Magda Szubanksi, Tim Flannery, Ruth Ozeki, Thomas Keneally, Ann Patchett, Richard Ford, Patrick Gale, Chad Harbach, Christos Tsiolkas, Ramona Koval, Kate Grenville, Cate Kennedy, Karen Joy Fowler, Graeme Simsion, Henry Reynolds and the former Treasurer and Deputy Prime Minister Wayne Swan. Many of these events were sold out. For a full list of participants please visit Previous Events.
In 2014 we began recording events. An edited version of some of our conversations can be listened to under the 'podcasts' tab in the menu above. Unfortunately, due to permission restrictions, we are not able to record all events.
Outspoken operates through selling tickets to our events ($22 for adults, $15 for students unless otherwise stated)* We do not receive any external funding. We very much appreciate the help we get from various businesses in town, in particular Maleny Bookshop and Rosetta Books, as well as support with publicity from The Hinterland Times, The Glasshouse Country News and ABC Sunshine Coast FM. And, of course, from you, our audience.
Approximately one month before each event we send out an email with information about the evening, inviting you to book. If you sign up using the form at the bottom of this page we'll put you on the list. We promise not to send you junk mail or to give your address to anyone else.
(*As of June 2019 our ticket price has risen by $2 to $22 for a standard adult price. Student discounts remain the same. We do apologise for the increase but running costs have jumped in various places. We do our best to keep ticket prices at a minimum.)
